Let’s Talk Ovulation

Tracking ovulation is key when using a home insemination kit, as it helps pinpoint the fertile window, when conception is most likely. Accurate timing helps identify when conception is most likely to occur.

The fertile window is the six days leading up to and including ovulation, when you're most likely to conceive.

Many people choose to inseminate during this period, particularly in the two days before and on ovulation day, as this aligns with the body’s natural fertile window.

Best Time to Inseminate

When To Test

Ovulation sticks detect Luteinising hormone in your urine. A positive result means an LH surge, which usually indicates ovulation within 24–36 hours.

Once you get a positive result, many people choose to begin insemination that day and continue for 1–2 days. If your cycles are regular and you can predict your LH peak, consider inseminating the day before as well.

Calculate when to start testing:

Track your average cycle length (Day 1 = first day of your period).

Use this formula: Cycle length – 17 = Start day

Tips for Best Results

Test at the same time each day (late morning or early afternoon is best, avoid first morning urine as you may miss the surge).

• Reduce fluid intake for 2 hours before testing for better accuracy.

• Track for a few cycles to learn your pattern.

• Use a fertility app to log your results and predict future cycles.

• Combine with other signs like cervical mucus changes or basal body temperature for greater accuracy.

If you have irregular cycles, start testing with LH strips earlier—around day 8—and continue daily until you detect a surge. Track results consistently each month to identify patterns, and consider testing twice a day (late morning and early afternoon) for better accuracy.

Using the Maia Baby Insemination Kit with Confidence

  • Find Your Fertile Window

Use the LH strips to detect your surge. Many people choose to inseminate around 12–36 hours after a peak LH result.

  • Prepare the Sample

Collect semen in the cup. Use fresh at room temp, or thawed donor sample right away.

  • Load the Applicator

Draw up the sample slowly. Avoid air bubbles in the barrel or tip.

  • Get Comfortable

Lie down and elevate hips with pillows if this feels comfortable and helps positioning.

  • Insert and Release

Insert the syringe, aim gently upward, and slowly release. If needed, gentle adjustment for comfort is fine using clean hands.

  • Rest and Relax

Many people choose to rest for 15–30 minutes afterwards to relax. Breathe and rest.

  • Clean Up

Dispose of the syringe after use. Rinse the cup thoroughly with warm water and allow to air dry before reuse.

  • Stay Consistent

Each cycle brings new opportunity. Stay calm and trust the process.
