Tracking ovulation is key when using a home insemination kit, as it helps pinpoint the fertile window—when conception is most likely. Accurate timing boosts the chances of sperm meeting the egg and increases the likelihood of pregnancy.
The fertile window is the six days leading up to and including ovulation, when you're most likely to conceive.
Timing insemination during this period—especially in the two days before and on ovulation day—greatly increases your chances of pregnancy.
Ovulation sticks detect Luteinising hormone in your urine. A positive result means an LH surge, which usually indicates ovulation within 24–36 hours.
Once you get a positive, begin insemination that day and continue for 1–2 days. If your cycles are regular and you can predict your LH peak, consider inseminating the day before as well.
Calculate when to start testing:
Track your average cycle length (Day 1 = first day of your period).
Use this formula: Cycle length – 17 = Start day
Test at the same time each day (late morning or early afternoon is best, avoid first morning urine as you may miss the surge).
• Reduce fluid intake for 2 hours before testing for better accuracy.
• Track for a few cycles to learn your pattern.
• Use a fertility app to log your results and predict future cycles.
• Combine with other signs like cervical mucus changes or basal body temperature for greater accuracy.
If you have irregular cycles, start testing with LH strips earlier—around day 8—and continue daily until you detect a surge. Track results consistently each month to identify patterns, and consider testing twice a day (late morning and early afternoon) for better accuracy.
Use the LH strips to detect your surge. Inseminate 12–36 hours after your peak result.
Collect semen in the cup. Use fresh at room temp, or thawed donor sample right away.
Draw up the sample slowly. Avoid air bubbles in the barrel or tip.
Lie down and elevate hips with pillows to support flow and access.
Insert the syringe, aim gently upward, and slowly release. You can guide with a clean finger.
Stay lying down for 15–30 minutes. Breathe and rest.
Dispose of the syringe. Wash the cup with mild soap and warm water. Rinse and air dry.

When to try — and why it makes a difference.
We suggest using Maia Baby at the first sign of your LH surge — then again 18 to 36 hours later if trying more than once in the same cycle.
Sperm need time to travel — so the goal is to have them ready and waiting when ovulation occurs.
